Last year, the Southport School Committee proposed using $137,000 from surplus in keeping the local assessment at a nearly 0% increase. This year, the committee wanted to duplicate its actions with a goal of achieving a 6% local assessment increase.
Boothbay Harbor Region Chamber of Commerce (BBHCC) held its annual dinner meeting and awards ceremony Oct. 12 at Boothbay Railway Village Museum to a crowd of over 100. A brief membership meeting in the Village church was held prior to the cocktail.
John Cooper is the latest name added to an exclusive list of the Sara Leone Leadership Award recipients presented annually to an Edgecomb Eddy School graduating sixth grader. Sara Leone attended Edgecomb Eddy until she completed sixth grade in 2002.
With June 21 being the last day of classes, Southport School Committee is now preparing for the next academic year beginning in August. On June 12, the school committee approved a contract extension through 2025 for teaching principal Lisa Clarke.
