A series of nature-themed hikes and workshops hosted by New River Gorge National Park and Preserve, West Virginia State Parks, Active Southern West Virginia and other organizations from March 16 through the end of May 2024 on public lands across southern West Virginia. All activities in the annual Spring Nature Fling program are free and open to all age groups, although children must be accompanied by adults.
West Virginia was once covered with old growth forests, but most of it was destroyed by large scale commercial logging in the 1900s, and they now make up less than 1% of West Virginia's forests.
