Blues boss Paul Jewell felt his side thoroughly deserved their 1-0 victory over West Ham at Upton Park with former Hammer Lee Bowyer netting a late winner. The result was an early birthday present for Jewell, who celebrates his 47th birthday on Wednesday.
Town striker Darren Bent lived up to his England U21 supersub tag by scoring twice after coming on in a 3-1 win in Poland. Bent came off the bench in the 62nd minute and netted a penalty and a header.
Middlesbrough s Adam Johnson is again said to be on Jim Magilton s wish list as he looks to sign a left-sided midfielder. Magilton is still to add a left winger to his squad with a move for Southampton s Rudi Skácel having broken down earlier in the summer.
