Multiple Wave-Makers in Store for the Caribbean and East Coast
A series of storms, high pressure and other features keep the swell flowing into next week

UPDATE: The latest readings confirm that the largest NNW swell of the season so far is due for the Caribbean this weekend. The storm that moved off the East Coast on Thursday morning intensified overnight, generating 50-foot-plus seas along with 45-knot winds aimed at the region. Islands in the Western Caribbean like Puerto Rico will start out Saturday morning with overhead to double-overhead surf, building to triple-overhead by midday with an even more energetic pulse of swell mixing in over the afternoon hours. The surf will be very consistent with standout breaks pushing 20-foot-plus faces. So far, it’s been a fairly uneventful 2021 in the way of surf for the East Coast and Caribbean. Ever since a strong nor’easter sent pumping barrels to snow-covered beaches back in mid-December, the region’s fallen into a pattern of fun-but-not-quite-pumping surf lacking in size or power or both. Meanwhile, the North Pacific only added insult to injury by blessing West Coast and Hawaii surfers with weeks of nonstop firing surf.
