The historical drama movie is set in the UAE coastal city in the early 16th century Khorfakkan is based on a book by of Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah. The film features a big cast of young and seasoned Emirati actors. Khorfakkan features battle scenes by local tribes against colonising Portuguese troops.
The film uses CGI green screens for some ocean set scenes.
The production crew of Khorfakkan features a mix of local and international talent, lead by US and Irish directors Ben Mole and Maurice Sweeney.
