New Joe Strummer comp in the works

7 weeks ago Assembly. The new comp picks mostly from his time in the Mescaleros, and also includes some of his work from the Earthquake Weather era. It also includes three unreleased tracks, two of which are live recordings of Strummer s band playing I fought the law and Rudie Can t Fail, as well as an acoustic version of Junco Partner. The release is remastered by Paul Hicks (who worked on Beatles solo remasters) and, somewhat surprisingly, is out on George Harrison s Darkhorse records. Jakob Dylan provides the liner notes. Joe Strummer s Solo Years To Be Collected

Joe Strummer will be collected on new anthology Assembly . The 16 track collection begins in the aftermath of the dissolution of The Clash, and matches rarities against some solo high points from the legendary frontman. Set to be released on March 26th, Assembly will be available on gatefold 2xLP black vinyl, CD and digitally. Available to pre-order HERE, it s being released on Dark Horse Records, a label set up by George Harrison in 1974 and rejuvenated by his son Dhani Harrison and David Zonshine. The tracklisting contains some real gems, including deep cuts, fan favourites, and two sizzling live takes on The Clash favourites Rudie Can t Fail and I Fought The Law , recorded by Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros at London’s Brixton Academy on November 24th, 2001.

The album reflected the band s growing interest in a range of styles beyond their punk roots, including reggae, rockabilly, ska, New Orleans R&B, pop, lounge jazz, and hard rock. With the dawn of the 80s in sight, the Clash used the title track to deal with an unknown future, pondering the many ways the world could end, including the coming of the ice age, starvation, and war.
