Madison Heights, MI – Voters in the Madison District will have a bond proposal on the Aug. 3 primary ballot. The language is as follows:
This proposal will allow the school district to continue to levy the statutory rate of not to exceed 18 mills on all property, except principal residence and other property exempted by law, required for the school district to receive its revenue per pupil foundation allowance and restores millage lost as a result of the reduction required by the Michigan Constitution of 1963. Shall the currently authorized millage rate limitation on the amount of taxes which may be assessed against all property, except principal residence and other property exempted by law, in Madison District Public Schools, Oakland County, Michigan be renewed by 17.4874 mil

Clawson, MI- Voters in the Clawson Public Schools District have a bond proposal on the Aug. 3 primary ballot. There are no candidates for office on the ballot, only the proposal. It states:
“Clawson Public Schools County of Oakland State of Michigan Shall the Clawson Public Schools, County of Oakland, State of Michigan, borrow the sum of not to exceed Fifty Five Million Nine Hundred Thirty Five Thousand Dollars ($55,935,000) and issue its general obligation unlimited tax bonds therefor, in one or more series, for the purpose of paying for the cost of the following projects: – Preparing, developing and improving sites, including sites for school buildings and additions thereto, including the construction of new drives, parking lots and landscaping; – Preparing, developing and improving sites for the construction and equipping of athletic fields and playgrounds; – Constructing, erecting, equipping and furnishing a new Middle School fac

Pontiac, MI – Voters throughout Pontiac are being asked a one-line question on the Aug. 3 ballot:
“Shall the 1982 Charter for the City of Pontiac be revised by a Charter Commission to be selected by the electorate?”
For a clear definition of a city charter, we look to Michigan Municipal League, who says “A charter is similar to a local Constitution it prescribes procedures to be followed in operating local government, establishes the powers and duties of elected officials, creates safeguards to protect against misuse of authority, and provides opportunities for citizen involvement. Michigan is a home rule state, and home rule gives the citizenry the right and responsibility to form its own government. A charter provides the mechanism for accomplishing the myriad tasks assigned to elected officials to govern their communities. Citizens write the charter and determine what the governmental structure will be to exercise those powers.”
