The Super Bowl ad landscape looked different this year as big names like Budweiser, halftime show sponsor Pepsi and Coke sat out their usual commercial buys and rethought how to best promote their brands during the coronavirus pandemic. But there was no shortage of creative and entertaining ads to watch as the NFL s Tampa Bay Buccaneers took on the reigning champs, the Kansas City Chiefs.

It’s always hard to stand out in the Super Bowl advertising derby. Companies want to impress viewers and make a splash, but they also don’t want to flat out blow several million dollars. That’s why the great majority of the commercials end up being, you know, fine. But each year, for better and worse, a couple of handfuls leave more than a fleeting impression. These are the five best and five worst Super Bowl ads from the game’s 2021 edition.

For Super Bowl LV fans who have little interest in the actual game and care more about its commercials, you’ve come to the right place.
After a year disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, even the big-game commercials are going to be a little different this year. Legacy advertisers such as PepsiCo, Coca-Cola, Hyundai and Budweiser have opted out of advertising during Sunday’s game, pouring their cash into philanthropic efforts instead of splashy ad campaigns. But that left plenty of airtime for newcomers to the Super Bowl ad blitz.
One thing is certain: The stars are still coming out to play.
