Shawnee County District Judge Bill Ossmann on Friday denied death penalty case defendant Yanez Sanford s request that he be put on house arrest in Kansas City, Mo., noting that Sanford fought extradition to Kansas the last time he lived in that city.
During a hearing held using Zoom, Ossmann issued two rulings calling for Sanford to continue to be held in the Shawnee County Jail on a $1 million bond.
Ossmann first denied a motion asking that he reduce Sanford s bond to $500,000 while allowing for him to be placed on house arrest in Kansas City, Mo.
He then denied a second motion asking that Sanford be transferred to jail more able to ensure his safety and his well-being than the one in Shawnee County.
