Shawnee County District Judge Bill Ossmann on Friday denied death penalty case defendant Yanez Sanford's request that he be put on house arrest in Kansas City, Mo., noting that Sanford fought extradition to Kansas the last time he lived in that city.
During a hearing held using Zoom, Ossmann issued two rulings calling for Sanford to continue to be held in the Shawnee County Jail on a $1 million bond.
Ossmann first denied a motion asking that he reduce Sanford's bond to $500,000 while allowing for him to be placed on house arrest in Kansas City, Mo.
He then denied a second motion asking that Sanford be transferred to "jail more able to ensure his safety and his well-being" than the one in Shawnee County.
