Minister Peter Burke has said he is delighted that the Government have backed the midlands and Longford with an investment of over €10m and recognised our potential and our strategic importance . I am delighted to announce a €10.4 million investment in Longford Town, in conjunction with my colleague in the Department of Housing, Minister Darragh O’Brien, he said. The Camlin Quarter Regeneration project will be a key Government development and will see millions spent which will benefit generations to come. This project will see significant regeneration of our older buildings within the town, something that has been flagged by the community for years. We all are familiar with the ‘Providers Building’ in the middle of town, which in particular has the potential to enhance Longford town’s economic offering.
The Government is investing €25.8m in the second round of a stimulus plan to encourage more compact and sustainable development around the country.
Local councils in four ‘Project Ireland 2040’ invesment regions will administer the funds, issued under the Urban Regeneration Development Fund (URDF), and the goal is to revitalise the areas.
The largest portion of the funding under the second phase of the plan, which focusses on the midlands, has been set aside for Longford Town’s Camlin Quarter Regeneration project.
It has been granted more than €10m, the Government announced today.

Government chiefs have given the green light for a major multi million euro regeneration of Longford town.
More than €10m in State aid has been set aside under the Urban Regeneration Development Fund (URDF) for a county town’s Camlin Quarter Regeneration project.
The funding forms part of a wider €25.8m stimulus package for four projects across the midlands under a second round of funding announcements linked to the programme.
The €10.4m in funding earmarked for Longford represents the single biggest capital led investment to ever come to the midlands town and brings the county’s overall allocation to almost €13.5m following a €2.9m contribution in 2018.
