Jenny Lokshin was nominated to fill the County Board District 6 vacancy : SPlog : Smile Politely

February 8, 2021 / 9:47am / Julie McClure County Board District 6 has had a bit of turnover in the last couple of months, with Mike Ingram stepping down after his election as Champaign County Recorder (that seat is now held by Cameron Raab), and DeShawn Williams stepping down just after his election to serve as Chief Deputy Treasurer.  Jenny Lokshin has been nominated by District 6 Precinct Committee Persons to fill Williams seat. Lokshin has held leadership roles within the Illinois and C-U chapters of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, and has been an active volunteer for Champaign County Democrats.  Top image from Champaign County Democrats Facebook page.

Dispute over filling county board vacancy continuing even after swearing-in

URBANA — A day after she tried twice to block the Champaign County Board from filling a vacant seat, county Executive Darlene Kloeppel said Friday that she was preparing a written veto of the board’s vote to approve its newest member, Cameron Raab of Champaign. Kloeppel said she told the board Thursday evening that she was vetoing its unanimous vote approving Raab to fill the District 6 seat vacated by Mike Ingram, who resigned after being elected recorder of deeds in November. Kloeppel’s oral veto was ultimately ignored. State’s Attorney Julia Rietz warned Kloeppel that her action could be viewed as contemptuous of a court order issued earlier in the day. County Clerk Aaron Ammons swore Raab in, and he was seated for the Thursday night board meeting.

Champaign County executive loses bid to block board s action on District 6 vacancy

URBANA — A Champaign County judge has denied a temporary restraining order sought by County Executive Darlene Kloeppel, who was seeking to block the county board from filling a board vacancy Thursday evening. In an emergency telephone hearing Thursday, Judge Jason Bohm denied Kloeppel’s request, saying she wouldn’t be irreparably harmed without a temporary restraining order. Kloeppel sued the county board in June, contending she has the authority to fill vacancies in elected county offices rather than the board chairman. In either case, an appointment to fill a vacancy is subject to a county board vote. County board Chairman Kyle Patterson scheduled a special meeting for Thursday, ahead of the regular county board meeting, to fill the unexpired District 6 seat of Mike Ingram, who resigned after being elected as recorder of deeds.
