The backtobacktoback storms have saturated the ground so on highway 17 this morning a large pine tree dragged down power lines when it toppled over. Traffic was a mess as all lanes were blocked for three hours. In lafayette trees fell blocking record rainfall in one of the wettest december starts softening root systems making trees vulnerable. Rallied in new york demanding more aggressive federal response to deaths caused by police. Family members of People Killed by new York City Police are going back decades were among those in the huge crowd at Washington Square. 23 people were arrested for Disorderly Conduct during protests at the Boston Common and the massachusetts statehouse. Otherwise, this demonstration against Police Brutality was mostly peaceful. Several hundred people were there. There are protests in the bay area, as well. Demonstrators today in oakland marched from College Avenue down broadway to the Alameda County courthouse near lake merritt. Todays protest is marred by a dramatic distraction. Downed trees were a problem in other parts of the bay area today. San mateo, crews worked to remove a large tree that had fallen on to a home on west poplar avenue. Nobody hurt here. Firefighters say the roots became so wet they just couldnt handle the weight of the tree anymore. Also in san mateo, a tree came crashing down on to a moving car. It happened on highway 92 near the alameda de las pole gas off ramp. The drive was okay. All lanes were blocked while crews cleaned up the tree which didnt take long. Only about halfhour. The storm is still making an impact. Lets check in now with chief meteorologist paul deanno. Thankfully, the storm is winding down after record rainfall yesterday and winds topping out at 80 Miles Per Hour at the higher elevations. We now can say all that is left are a few scattered showers and they will be gone by
