The city plans to buy the Wells Fargo Plaza located just east of City Hall.The 27-story building at First Avenue and Washington Street is expected to house multiple city departments, including police headquarters. PHOENIX Calvin Goode Sr. drove an old blue pickup truck. It wasn t fancy and it wasn t special. It didn t shout and it didn t sparkle. It just was . there. A workhorse to get Goode from his longtime home in Phoenix to where ever he was going and whomever he was meeting with.
It s been six months since Goode passed away on Dec. 23, 2020. In that time, a memorial service for him on Zoom was hacked, the city council he sat on for decades finally approved a civilian review board for the police department and droves of people whose future he fought for moved to South Phoenix.

Phoenix artist Isaac Caruso is leading the project to replace an iconic central Phoenix mural and he invites the community to help this weekend.
The mural going up will replace “The Prayer of St. Francis,” a mural painted by Rose Johnson in 1998. Johnson’s mural was covered earlier this year.
The Civitan Foundation, a nonprofit that provides job training and employment for individuals with disabilities, owns the building that houses the mural and has sought community input for what will be painted in its place.
According to a press release the building will be the future home of a thrift store, coffee shop, art gallery and restaurant.

When muralist Isaac Caruso’s family gathered at the dinner table at night, his dad always had a story to share about longtime Phoenix Councilmember Calvin Goode.
Caruso’s father was a social worker who frequently worked with Goode on various initiatives.
“My dad would come home from work every day and tell me about these really interesting stories about this character named Calvin, and how he did business. His lessons to me about Calvin were just like, this is how you be a man, this is how you get stuff done, Caruso said.
