University of Arkansas first baseman Danielle Gibson said the Razorbacks have been driven the entire offseason by the feeling of having their 2021 softball season end a round short of the Women’s College World Series.
Arkansas softball earns a Super Regional berth with Fayetteville Regional win over Stanford, 7-3. This is the program s second Regional win in program history. Arkansas, a national seed for the first time in program history, needed just one win to earn a berth to the Super Regional as the Hogs came out of the winner s bracket in the Fayetteville Regional. The Hogs got the scoring going early when Braxton Burnside sent the first pitch she saw out to centerfield for a two-run home run in the top of the first inning. The Cardinal added three of their own in the bottom of that frame. Arkansas started Autumn Storms in the circle who went for just 1.0 innings with two strikeouts before SEC Co-Pitcher of the Year Mary Haff came in. She threw six scoreless for the Hogs. BATON ROUGE, La. – Pinch hitter Ryan Jackson floated the go-ahead base hit to left in the top of the seventh inning, and pitcher Mary Haff spun a complete game masterpiece as No. 7 Arkansas took game one of the series, 1-0, at LSU on Saturday night in Baton Rouge. With two games left this weekend, the Razorbacks (39-7, 18-4 SEC) are one win away from claiming at least a share of the program’s first SEC regular season title.
How it Happened
Arkansas’ defense made big plays behind Haff to keep the game scoreless, stranding five LSU (28-16, 10-9 SEC) baserunners. Second baseman Keely Huffine made a tremendous play ranging deep down the right field line, making a basket catch with her back facing home plate to end the first and leave a runner at third.
