NEW DELHI: Chinese President Xi Jinpings message on Friday to Prime Minister Narendra Modi extending Beijings support to counter the second COVID wave in India is a major step, marking the first direct communication between the two leaders following the Chennai informal summit in 2019.
Interestingly, Xi reached out to the Prime Minister, after US President Joe Biden and the Russian President Vladimir Putin had spoken to Modi, and followed up their conversation with the dispatch of planeloads of essential medical supplies to counter the second vicious wave of Covid-19.

COLOMBO (News 1st): All Government events scheduled for the next weeks will be suspended with immediate effect, said the President’s Media Division.
In addition, all private events, meetings and parties will also be prohibited for the next two weeks, said the PMD.
This measure was taken in order to control the spread of the coronavirus, it added.

In an attempt to curb the rise in coronavirus cases, the Maharashtra government on Wednesday announced stricter COVID-19 curbs. The new restrictions will come into force from 8 pm on April 22 till 7 am on May 1.
The Maharashtra government has imposed several new restrictions including a ban on inter-city and inter-district travel and curbs on office attendance in an attempt to bring the spiralling coronavirus infections under control.
As to inter-city and inter-district travel ban, exemption will be made for travel for medical emergency, essential services and funeral or medical attendance.

In order to break the chain of the virus in the state, Maharashtra government on Wednesday issued revised set of guidelines. The guidelines will come into force from April 22, 8 pm and remain in force till May 1, 7 am.
The new guidelines includes restrictions on office attendance, duration of marriage ceremony, and public and private transport.
The state government has put of list of categories of people who will be allowed to use local trains, metro and monorail services (excepting long-distance trains).
⢠All Government personnel (State/ Central/ Local), Tickets/ passes to be issued to the above category of personnel on the basis of a Government issued identity card only.
