Caldwell County Schools Announce Class of 2021 Graduation Date

After a year of uncertainty, students will not only return to in-person classes at Caldwell County Schools; they can now breathe a sigh of relief as graduation plans have been announced. Caldwell County High School principal Christy Phelps tells the News Edge the celebration events will kick off with Baccalaureate on Sunday, May 16. She adds Class Night to follow on Tuesday, May 18, with the Caldwell County graduation ceremony scheduled for Friday evening, May 21, at 7:00 at Tiger Stadium. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved to Saturday, May 22. Phelps says that while there is still much to be determined, they wanted to make the information available in ample time so families can prepare and schedule accordingly. She adds graduates and their families will receive more information as it’s made available.

Winter Weather Threat Results In Schedule Changes For Schools, Government Winter Weather Threat Results In Schedule Changes For Schools, Government February 18, 2021 The threat of winter weather today (February 18) has resulted in some changes in the local school system schedules. The Catawba County, Hickory Public, Newton-Conover, Alexander County, and Caldwell County Schools will all have a remote learning day for students and staff. The Burke County Schools are closed for all in-person and remote learning with an optional teacher workday. In the Newton-Conover system Kid Connection is closed, and in the Catawba County Schools there will be no Quest. Meals on Wheels of Catawba County has cancelled meal deliveries for today. Meal recipients or volunteers who have questions about deliveries may call Catawba County Senior Nutrition Services at (828) 695-5610. District Court is cancelled today for Catawba, Burke, and Caldwell Counties.

Today is the first day back for in-person learning in Burke County for A-day elementary school students. The Burke County delay means school buildings will open two hours late and buses will run two-hours late. The delay does apply to all students and staff on virtual and remote learning as well.
