Clemson Concludes Regular Season at Lewis Chitengwa Memorial

Clemson, SC Clemson concludes its men’s golf regular season at the Lewis Chitengwa Memorial Tournament in Charlottesville, Va. April 8-9.   The 13-team field will play 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday at the par 71 Birdwood Golf Course on the University of Virginia campus.The tournament is named in honor of former University of Virginia player Lewis Chitengwa, who was an All-American for the Cavaliers in 1995 and 1996.  He finished seventh at the 1996 NCAA Championships where he also beat Tiger Woods to win the National Long Drive Contest.Tragically, Chitengwa contracted meningitis while playing on the Canadian Professional Tour at a tournament in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada in the summer of 2001 and died at the age of 26.This year’s field for the Lewis Chitengwa will include four of the top 12 teams in the nation, featuring #6 Florida State, #10 Tennessee, #11 Arkansas and #12 Virginia.  The field also includes Clemson Liberty, Loyola (Maryland), Maryland, North Florida, Nort

Clemson Finishes Sixth at Watersound Invitational

Final ResultsClemson, SC Jonathan Nielson fired a team best 71 on Wednesday to lead Clemson to a sixth-place finish at the 12 team Watersound Invitational at Shark’s Tooth Golf Club in Panama City, FL.   The field included six of the top 20 teams in the nation, including third ranked Vanderbilt who won the three-day 54-hole tournament with an 835 team score.Clemson was in second place after the first two rounds and stood in second place at 16 under-par just three shots behind Vanderbilt with 13 holes left.  But the Tigers struggled on the back nine on Wednesday.    The Tigers finished ahead of top 20 teams Mississippi State and Alabama.Nielsen was the top Tiger for the event with six-under-par score of 210 for the 54 holes.  He finished seventh overall, his third top 10 of the season.   Nielsen had 15 birdies for the tournament, tied for most in the 75 player field, and the second most birdies he has recorded in a tournament this year.Kian Rose also finished in the top 25 for t

Thomas Higgins fired a five-under-par 67 and Kian Rose added a four-under-par 68 on Tuesday to lead Clemson to a 280-team score and a second-place standing after two rounds of the Watersound Invitational at Shark’s Tooth Golf Club in Panama City, Fla.  The 12-team tournament that features six of the top 20 teams in the nation will conclude on Wednesday.Third-ranked Vanderbilt owns a seven-shot lead over the Tigers with a 20-under-par score of 556.  The Tigers have a 36-hole score  of 563, while 10th ranked Virginia is third at 564 and 13th ranked Florida State is fourth at 567.  Georgia Tech, ranked 12th in the nation, is fifth at 568.  The field includes six of the top 20 teams in the nation.Higgins and Jonathan Nielsen stand in a tie for fifth after 36 holes with identical scores of 139.   Higgins had a 67 in the second round thanks to four birdies, an eagle and a bogey.  His eagle took place on the par five 13th

Clemson Returns to Course at Watersound Invitational

Live ScoringCLEMSON, S.C. After winning its first tournament of the year at Briar’s Creek in Johns Island, SC last week, the Clemson men’s golf team returns to action Monday through Wednesday, Feb. 19-21, at Shark’s Tooth Golf Club in Panama City, Fla. The Watersound includes some of the most traditional golf programs in the nation. The field includes Clemson, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Alabama, Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt, Mississippi State and host school Florida State.The tournament will be played on the par 72 Shark’s Tooth Golf Club Black course that was designed by Greg Norman and  measures 7,246 yards.Clemson will feature a lineup that includes Andrew Swanson and Thomas Higgins. Both players finished in the top four at the Battle at Briar’s Creek, the first time Clemson has had two top four finishers in the same tournament since March of 2022 when Colby Patton and Zack Gordon were co-medalists at the Wake Forest Invitational on Pinehurst #2.Swanson has a 72.00 stroke
