Clemson Selected for NCAA Regional for 42nd Consecutive Tournament

Clemson, SC Jordan Byrd’s Clemson men’s golf team was selected to the NCAA Regional Golf Tournament on Wednesday, the 42nd consecutive regional tournament for the program.The streak is the longest in terms of consecutive NCAA Tournaments in Clemson sports history.Clemson was selected for the Chapel Hill Regional at the Finley course on the University of North Carolina campus. The tournament will be held May 13-15 with 18 holes being played each day. The 13-team field in Chapel Hill includes #1 seed North Carolina, the #4 ranked team in the nation, second-seeded Alabama, ranked ninth overall, and third-seed Georgia Tech, ranked 17th in the nation.   East Tennessee State is seeded fourth and ranked 21st, giving the regional four of the top 25 teams in the nation.Other teams in the Chapel Hill Regional include fifth seeded Northwestern, (6) Baylor, (7) Virginia Commonwealth, (8) Loyola Marymount, (9) Long Beach State, (10) Clemson, (11) Michigan State, (12) Ball State and (13) Howar

Clemson Finishes 10th at ACC Championship

Clemson,  SC Clemson finished in 10th place at the Men’s ACC Golf Championship on Sunday afternoon at Charlotte Golf Club in Charlotte, NC.  It was a tough weather day for all 12 teams as the average score for the 60 golfers was 74.58, over three shots higher than the average for the first two rounds.North Carolina finished first in the stroke play portion of the event with a 10-under par 842 score.  Florida State, Georgia Tech and Wake Forest all tied for second with scores of four under par 848 on the par 71 layout.  Those will be the fourth schools who advance to the match play championship semifinals on Monday morning.  The championship match will be held Monday afternoon.Clemson finished in 10th with an 868 total, including a season high 304 strokes in the final round in the poor conditions.   Clemson now has a 76-76-1 head-to-head record in its 11 team events this year and thus is eligible for selection for the NCAA Tournament.  Teams must have a .500 record against the

Clemson Tied for Sixth after Two Rounds of ACC Championship

Clemson, SC Sophomore Thomas Higgins shot a career best tying 65 on Saturday to lead the Clemson men’s golf team to a 282 team score and a tie for sixth place standing after two rounds of the ACC Men’s Golf Championship at Charlotte Country Club in Charlotte, NC. Clemson is in sixth place with a team score of four-under-par 564, but Jordan Byrd’s team is just two shots off the fourth-place cutline to qualify for the match play championship on Monday.  The 12 teams in the Atlantic Coast Conference play 54 holes of stroke play between Friday and Sunday to determine the four teams that will advance to the match play championship.  Those four teams will play the semifinals and finals of the match play tournament to determine the champion. North Carolina has the team lead after two rounds with a 552 score, 16-under par.   Florida State is second with a 555 total (-13), while Georgia Tech is third at 560.   Duke is fourth at 562, but is just one shot ahead of fifth-place Wake Fores

Clemson Finishes Eighth at Lewis Chitengwa Memorial

Clemson, SC All four of Clemson’s counting players shot two-under-par on the front nine, each player’s last nine holes of the day, to lead Clemson to a six-under-par team score of 278 and an eighth-place finish out of 13 teams on Tuesday at the third annual Lewis Chitengwa Memorial at the University of Virginia’s Birdwood Course in Charlottesville, Va.Clemson made a five team improvement on the final day with its six-under par team score that was the second best team score of the day.   Clemson’s four counting players included three players who shot under par and one at par.Clemson now has a 74-67-1 record for the year against the field, including 58-30-1 in the spring.
