thank you for sticking with me, i will be back tomorrow night. laura coates is sitting in for don lemon tonight, and that show begins right now. hey, laura. hey, sara sidner, thanks so much, great show as always, and this is don lemon tonight. i am laura coates sitting in for don. and look, we are learning many more details about the fbi s unprecedented search for documents at former president donald trump s mar-a-lago home. and tonight, a source tells cnn that authorities did not believe that trump and his aides had returned all the documents and other materials that had been taken to mar-a-lago when trump left office. the documents, as you well know, are the property of the united states government. they don t belong to trump. some 15 boxes of materials were previously returned to the national archives, but apparently, investigators had concerns about whether there was any additional materials, including, perhaps, classified documents and with potential national security
details the potential offenses being investigated. you can see there, it says willful retention of national defense information, also concealment or removal of government records. also obstruction of a federal investigation. that willful retention that you see there, anderson, it s key because legal experts are telling our evan perez and caitlin polantz that it s that language that points directly to the former president as a possible subject of the criminal probe. something else that was released was the motion to seal, and it has federal prosecutors expressing their concern that, as you can see there, evidence might be destroyed. and, you know anderson, that could explain why fbi agents were really compelled to move in and spent hours taking, you know, 11 steps of classified documents in the end. could you just explain what the doj s main argument against releasing the affidavit is? yeah, they ve been arguing this in their papers, they also argued it forcefully in court
developments and changes overnight on capitol hill. this afternoon, the committee investigating the january 6 insurrection will call a special witness in this surprise public hearing. that is former white house chief of staff mark meadows aide, former aide, cassidy hutchinson. she s expected to testify starting at 1:00 eastern today. last week in videotaped testimony, she revealed the names of several republican lawmakers who sought blanket pardons. so, let s begin with that, with our own correspondent jessica schneider. jess, there wasn t going to be a hearing this week at all. then when one was announced, didn t know who the witness would be. very similar in the leadup. why? yeah, last-minute announcement, possibly, poppy, to try to keep things secret because of concerns about security. the committee concerned about the security of cassidy hutchinson and other possible witnesses. that may be why it was kept under wraps to this point. cassidy hutchinson in her hearing tod
