Dimapur, Oct. 9 (EMN): The Nagaland Zoological Park (NZP), in collaboration with Turtle Survival Alliance (TSA), observed the 68th Wildlife Week on October7 and 8 at the NZP campus. An update from NZP informed that the two-day event was jointly flagged off by the chief wildlife warden and additional principal chief conservator of forests, Ved Pal Singh, and the director of NZP, Dr. C Zupeni Tsanglai. It informed that a total of 120 students pursuing degrees from Unity College, Tetso College, Eastern Christian College and St. Joseph’s University participated in a series of events including facemask painting competition, wildlife quiz, a pledge signing campaign and distribution of information leaflets. It stated that the chief guest, Ved Pal Singh, gave away prizes to the winners. Students were motivated to interact with zoo visitors and spread the news of wildlife conservation. Singh also inaugurated two electric rickshaws for senior and child visitors at the zoo, it stated.
Dimapur, Aug. 25 (EMN): The animal rescue team of Nagaland Zoological Park (NZP) received a pair of Asian black bear cubs from Signal Angami Sector-A of Dimapur on August 25. An update from NZP stated that the timely intervention by Athriba Sangtam, CE of PHED (Sanitation and WSSO), that the cubs were safely rescued and given to the animal rescue team of NZP for rehabilitation in the zoo. The director of NZP, Dr. C Zupeni Tsanglai, stated that the Asian black bear also known as Asiatic black bear, moon bear or white-chested bear is a sub species of Himalayan black bear and is a threatened (vulnerable) species under IUCN (3.1) and a Schedule II (Part I) species protected under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.
