Since the start of the week, there has been beautiful weather in the Butler County area. However, the next two days will bring some heat and possible storms.
On Friday, the heat will bake the region with temperatures creeping towards 100. Then, on Saturday, Butler County could see the possibility of severe storms.
The storms from Saturday should also cool down the temperatures heading into the new week.
The local storm fuel is expected to be much more potent, that the county earned a “Marginal” threat assignment from the Storm Prediction Center.
In addition to some heavy rainfall, forecasters predict that Butler County could see damaging wind and hail, as well as a brief tornado threat. However, the tornado threat could be towards the Kansas/Oklahoma border.
Detention officer charged with murder, abuse of child

County prosecutor Darrin C. Devinney knows there is confusion for some who see Kaleb Hogan these days the expectation of some he would be that Hogan would be in jail after he was charged with first degree murder.
But he is not, having paid a bond on a different charge from a tragedy that occurred March 24.
Hogan was charged with abuse of a child after his three-month old son was sent to the hospital. Hogan, a correctional officer for the Department of Corrections at El Dorado at the time, was arrested and made a first appearance in court.
Solar project underway

Construction has started on a new solar farm in eastern Harvey County, a project of the Butler Electric, is underway and a conditional use permit for eight acres of ground for the project was approved buy the Harvey County Commission April 27.
The project will have the capability of powering about 270 homes currently served by the cooperative in Harvey and Butler Counties. It is one of two such projects by the cooperative currently under development.
Construction has already started, prior to the approval of conditonal use permits, with the approval of Gina Bell, director of the Harvey County Planning, Zoning and Environmental Department.
