they ll want the, you know, new business tax incentives. will those be able to be offered? mm-hmm. yes. we continue to offer those on a regular basis here in the city of detroit. it is an interesting story. i call it the tale of two cities because while we are constantly getting new businesses and new jobs and our downtown is thriving in a way that it hasn t in a very long time, our neighborhoods continue to suffer because our tax base is growing but it s not growing at the rate we need it to in order to get a handle on our debt and our constant our annual deficit. so businesses are still being offered. tax incentives are being offered and one of the great things we can provide is real estate, beautiful real estate at a price that you can t get anywhere else. we ve heard it said earlier today that getting an apartment there in downtown detroit versus here in new york city where you
forceful bargain to rally the american people the our side, but the intention is to change this package but to get tax cuts for the middle-class and unemployment insurance extended and to get it done for the next two weeks. i don t know if you saw the analysis in the washington post by ezra kline who pointed out that of the $800 or $900 billion that this deal will cost in terms of the lower revenue for the treasury, most of it goes to the middle-class. i mean the republicans they did get $95 billion for the tax cuts for those making more than $250,000 a year and $30 billion for the estate tax cuts and that is $125 billion, but look at what the democrats got. they got $120 billion in payroll tax cuts, and $40 billion in refundable tax credits and $56 billion in unemployment insurance, and $30 billion to $180 billion in business tax incentives which is a total of $246 to $3969 billion and
and that is what causes job growth to be so slow and everyone to be so pessimistic right now. and, john, talk to me about the president, he, of course, f for example with the tax cuts, wealthy versus middle class, saying republican were holding middle class hostage and boehne saying perhaps there s a compromise here. what other options are weee liky to see from the administration not just for midterms but the near future for all of these people out of work? reporter: well, the president laid out proposals last week. in the current environment you can t pass $50 billion worth of infrastructure spending. you may be ail at some point, perhaps after to pass the business tax incentives. there s a small business lending bill which is going to clear the congress soon. that s one step they can take. but people are going to have to be patient. and there s going to to be more
