she also named fani willis in that group of prosecutors who would sort of stand down. but fani willis clearly sounds like she is going to take on aggressive position on this in terms of getting this case to trial. nobody knows where the timing is going to be. because that is up to aileen cannon. and ultimately, this decision-making rests with the judges in each of these cases. the prosecutors can kind of we ll wheel and deal behind the scenes and try and get cooperation about who is going to go first, and a 4 to 1 another. but ultimately, the judges are the ones that s at the trial dates. and so that sounds like that is sort of an iterative process as well right? they may change over time yeah. if judge cannon decides this is going to take forever and she says the schedule that is going to go for a long time, the judges in the state cases are going to go, oh, we are not going to wait for. that never mind, we are back on. yes, exactly. and trump s lawyers are going to be makin
of potential weakness in her case. because that just doesn t sound like what you would say if you have a strong civil case that you want to go forward. and, andrew, doesn t matter the subject matter of the case? we ve got it i mean, as alex was talking about, there is a criminal case in georgia that appears to be addressing some of the same issues that the outstanding federal grand jury investigation in washington on january 6th is addressing. so, those are related matters, where is it would seem that, for example, the e. jean carroll civil case or the business records fraud to civil case that letitia james is pursuing would be a completely separate matter then the mar-a-lago classified documents case and so, maybe, even though it is the same defendant, the prosecutors and judges involved in those cases might see themselves as operating in parallel separate universes. yeah, absolutely. i totally agree with alex that
integrity or the tenacity of the state level prosecutors. but i think that jack smith would probably be loathe to say, i m going to wait until fani willis what happens if they both to january 6th? well, they are going to, but the question is this question is the sequencing. yes. rather than talking about andrew weissmann let s ask andrew weissmann. and stephanie ruhle, i want to hear from you on this as well. but, andrew so, when i heard the letitia james clip, i was thinking, if i were prosecutor in alvin bragg s office, i would have had my jaw dropped to the ground. just think about the different ways of cutting this. the normal way, you would think, is who has the case that his first in time? and the first person who had the case that was first in time would go, whether it is civil or criminal, whether it is state or federal. another way of dicing this is a civil case versus a criminal case. and a third way is state versus federal. and we have to start with the
pedophile. it is on ten already in terms of disinformation. that is just one county. one piece of trump s base. and there are two factors about that in terms of how it goes forward. if the base gets that radical that can be dangerous. it means his base is hardened but also they do not reach any normal americans at all. they become completely in a position in politics becomes inaccessible to all people who are still normal. the they are about to get tested in court. that is not like getting tested on radio. up next we re gonna look for the judge in this case to recuse herself and let somebody else run the trial. this will very well could be the determinative fight over this entire criminal indictment. we re gonna talk about that next. stay with us. if we want a more viable future for our kids, we need to find more sustainable ways of doing things.
that s not gonna be the case for anyone else. i did think the terms of his release are just worth pausing on. reality winner, a 28 year old security contractor who wanted to basically alert journalists that act that russia had criminally meddling in the 2016 election. she pointed out one document and she mailed to an outlet. the fbi showed up at her house and she was detained for every day after they came to that house until she got out of prison for four years. this was not a person where that was like oh sure, you want to fly in a private jet, we ll keep our passport? you are hang around? that s not how they rolled. they do that they just got in massachusetts, do you think he s running around the country? do you think he s in his rv? do you think he s gonna have a summer vacation? do you think he s gonna go to his favorite golf spot in new jersey? now, of course not. and one level there s a certain amount of deference because he s ex president. second of all is a logistical question
