A new large-scale vaccination site will be opening in Fort McMurray.
Starting on April 5, a clinic will be up and running at the Suncor Community Leisure Centre curling rink at MacDonald Island Park.
“MacDonald Island is, in many ways, the heart of our community. Convenient and safe access to COVID-19 vaccines is key to the health and well-being of residents, and the social and economic recovery of our communities,” said Mayor Don Scott.
“By using a larger facility with better parking, more people will be able to access their shots faster and safer. This is a logical step in the right direction.”

The Canadian Mental Health Association of Wood Buffalo is getting a big help financially thanks to a group of people donning a mullet.
The annual March Mullets campaign was able to raise over $26,000 which will be used to advance youth mental health programming within the organization’s recovery college.
Over 20 people took part which included a two-year-old, two women, and even a dog.
Speaking on Fort McMurray Matters, Emma Jones, CMHA Marketing and Community Relations Manager, noted the campaign also helped start a conversation.
“There is still that stigma associated, we feel maybe a little uncomfortable about sharing our feelings, men and women, but definitely men have that pressure from society still.”

A few changes are being made to transit services to account for Easter weekend.
Routes 11, 12, 15, 16, and 99 will be the only ones in operation for Good Friday.
Easter Sunday will operate with the regular Sunday schedule.
Detours affecting 18 and 91 are also continuing as preparation for river breakup continues downtown.
Complete schedules for each route can be found on the RMWB’s website.
Meanwhile, there will be no changes to curbside collection or the landfill’s hours of operation.
