Government of Canada supports post-secondary studies in French
More than ever, Canadians have positive views on bilingualism. This is especially true among youths, who see it as a window to the world. That’s why it’s important that the Government of Canada encourage youths who are able to learn in their second official language in order to achieve truly equal opportunities across the country and continue building a bilingual Canada.
The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Economic Development and Official Languages, joined with Lynn Brouillette, President and CEO of the Association des collèges et universités de la francophonie canadienne (ACUFC), in encouraging young people whose first language is English to pursue their post-secondary studies in French. Through the Bursary Program for Post-Secondary Studies in French as a Second Language, the Government of Canada is investing $12 million over four years to support English-language secondary school

The Royal Canadian Legion branches in Zone G-7 are beginning to open their doors. Though things will not be getting back to “normal” right away, the executives and volunteers are working to return to an atmosphere of camaraderie where members and our communities can come together to share remembrance and the potential of a better future. Branches are hosting breakfasts, soup and sandwiches, dinners, music (no dancing), darts, shuffleboard and much more. All functions strictly adhere to the COVID-19 regulations and restrictions. The Legion continues to offer financial assistance for post-secondary education. Branches may grant bursaries to the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of veterans who need financial assistance. Childcare waiting lists in Northern BC extended by lack of Early Childhood Educators

Canadian childcare services continue to battle the short supply of Early Childhood Educators (ECE) in the country, and Northern BC is no exception.
Some parents of young children in Prince George are even facing a two-year waitlist for daycare service.
“It’s really stressful to find enough people to cover the work especially during COVID when somebody is getting tested you can be short-staffed for up to a week,” explained Lynette Mikalishen, Director of Child Care Services at the YMCA of Northern BC.
