The Royal Canadian Legion branches in Zone G-7 are beginning to open their doors. Though things will not be getting back to “normal” right away, the executives and volunteers are working to return to an atmosphere of camaraderie where members and our communities can come together to share remembrance and the potential of a better future. Branches are hosting breakfasts, soup and sandwiches, dinners, music (no dancing), darts, shuffleboard and much more. All functions strictly adhere to the COVID-19 regulations and restrictions. Current event information is available on the Zone G-7 Facebook page.
The Legion continues to offer financial assistance for post-secondary education. Branches may grant bursaries to the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of veterans who need financial assistance. These bursaries can make a difference for veterans’ families and offers these children an opportunity to further their educational goals. Bursaries may be granted at any stage of a college or university program. Approved bursary assistance is not based on academic standing but rather on successful admission status to a post-secondary institution or successful completion of one or more years leading to a recognized degree, diploma, or certificate. The Bursary Program is funded through the Ontario Command branches and the Ladies Auxiliary Charitable Foundation. The money is raised through poppy tagging and other activities such as break open tickets, bingo, banquets, and clubhouse operations. The deadline to apply is March 26, 2021. Your applications must be mailed in. Email and faxes are not accepted.
