MONROE • The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office has seized approximately 20 pounds of methamphetamine as part of a coordinated investigation between several state and local agencies.

The Monroe County Sheriffâs Office seized approximately 20 pounds of methamphetamine May 20 as part of a coordinated investigation between several state and local agencies.
According to a release from the MCSO, Watavius Cortez Williams of Burr Road was arrested in Monroe County and charged with aggravated trafficking of methamphetamine in the case.
Monroe County Justice Court Judge Brandon Davis set his bond at $200,000, and Williams is being held at the Monroe County Detention Center.
Partnering agencies in the investigation include agents from the North Mississippi Narcotics Unit, the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics and the Mississippi Highway Patrol. The investigation has lasted for several months.

NEW HAVEN A Higganum man allegedly was caught with “numerous pills” after officers observed a transaction on Whitney Avenue Monday, according to police.
Officers with the department’s Street Interdiction Team saw the alleged drug-related transaction occur in a Whitney Avenue parking lot around 2:30 p.m. Monday, Capt. Ronald Smith said in an email.
“Officers subsequently conducted a motor vehicle stop on a vehicle that was operated by Glenn Hiller. Hiller was in the possession of numerous pills, including Suboxone, Adderall, Clonazepam and Aprazolam. He did not have a valid prescription for any of the pills,” Smith said.
The sun rises Feb. 17 ahead of the second winter storm to sweep through North Mississippi last week. The first system, which arrived Feb. 15, caused ice and storm, which shut down several normal routines and operations throughout Monroe County for the week.
