Branch County Art Guild met in July with guest artist, Pat Asbury

On July 8, The Branch County Art Guild held its first meeting since March 2020. The group gathered at Northview Christian Church where Colon artist, Pat Asbury, taught the 16 who attended how to paint a rosebud in watercolor. Asbury, a watercolor and acrylics artist, teaches classes at the Burnside Senior Center in Coldwater and at the Commission on Aging in Sturgis and Three Rivers. Soon, the Branch County Art Guild will exhibit new work at Century Bank and Trust, the Branch District Library, Southern Michigan Bank & Trust in Coldwater and Union City, Kellogg Community College Grahl Center and at the Burnside Senior Center.

OBITUARY: Dorothy Eileen (Strang) Rogers

Dorothy Eileen (Strang) Rogers Dorothy Eileen (Strang) Rogers died Sunday, December 27 at Maple Lawn Medical Care Facility in Coldwater. She was born March 23,1918 the first child of Lula (Thompson) and Irvin Strang on a farm in Quincy Township. After graduation in 1936 from Quincy High School she married Junior Rogers. Together they had two sons, Lawrence and James, and eventually settled on a portion of her family’s farm to raise their family. Dorothy was a great farm wife and learned to drive a tractor at a young age. Those skills served her well as she drove her car until she was 101 years old and always reminded her family that she never even had a ticket. She was an excellent cook and her pies were legendary.

OBITUARY: Thomas M. Young

Thomas M. Young, 73, of Coldwater, passed away Saturday, December 26, 2020 at ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Interment of ashes will be at Oak Grove Cemetery. Cremation services are being provided by Dutcher Funeral Home. Thomas was born August 24, 1947 in Stanton, MI, the son of Theodore Young. He worked many years for L & S Products, the Coldwater Country Club and ADAPT. Tom enjoyed playing video games and loved to socialize with others. He was a very kind, sweet man with a great sense of humor. Tom is survived by many special friends at Englewood, the Burnside Senior Center and ADAPT.
