Valdosta police investigate double shooting

VALDOSTA, Ga. (WALB) - Just before 10:30 Monday morning, March 8, the Valdosta Police Department (VPD) responded to a residence in the 900 block of McAfina Trail after E911 received a call about two people being shot.
When officers arrived on the scene, they found the two victims and began to render aid until Emergency Medical Services personnel arrived.
EMS said a 21-year-old man was deceased on scene. The other victim, a 20-year-old female, had a gunshot wound to one of her lower extremities.

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - One South Georgia detective has been recognized as the Rotary Club of Valdostaâs Officer of the Year.
Detective Heather Turner began her employment with the Valdosta Police Department in 2008 as a patrol officer.
In 2010, she transferred to the Bureau of Investigative Services where she has served as a detective in the Property Unit, Burglary Unit, and is currently assigned to the Personâs Crime Unit, where she serves as the departmentâs juvenile detective.
