Covid-19: 533 new cases in Sarawak, one death

KUCHING: Sarawak reported 533 new Covid-19 cases and one death on Friday (May 14), raising the cumulative tally to 37,654 cases with 215 fatalities. The state disaster management committee said Miri had the most cases with 109, followed by Kapit (69), Sibu (58), Bintulu (46) and Kuching (42). These five districts contributed 60.78% of the total new cases, the committee said in a statement. Other districts which recorded cases were Belaga (40), Sarikei (28), Selangau (26), Meradong (21), Pakan (18), Kanowit (15), Serian (13), Sebauh (11), Song and Sri Aman (seven each), Tatau (six), Mukah (five), Lubok Antu (four), Bau and Pusa (two each) and Bukit Mabong, Subis, Julau and Samarahan with one each. Of the 533 new cases, 38 had symptoms of Covid-19 during screening.

KUCHING: Sarawak reported 405 new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday (May 12), with 71% coming from the Kapit, Sibu, Bintulu, Miri and Kuching districts. The state disaster management committee said Kapit had the most cases with 79, followed by Sibu (68), Bintulu (60), Miri (47) and Kuching (35). Other districts which reported new cases were Mukah and Samarahan with 17 each, Subis (16), Serian (13), Sebauh (nine), Pakan and Sri Aman (eight each), Tebedu and Selangau (six each), Lundu and Song (four each), Bukit Mabong (three), Pusa (two) and Tatau, Kanowit and Sarikei (one each), taking the cumulative tally to 36,726 cases. Of the 405 new cases, 34 showed symptoms of Covid-19 during screening. A total of 346 individuals were detected among close contacts and screening of active clusters, the committee said in a statement on Wednesday (May 12).

Covid-19: Hari Raya celebrations in Sarawak limited to immediate family

KUCHING: The coming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration in Sarawak will be limited to immediate family members only, says the state disaster management committee. The committee said Muslims were allowed to celebrate Raya for the first seven days with strict compliance to standard operating procedures (SOP). The detailed SOP will be available on the website of the Sarawak Islamic Council at mis.sarawak.gov.my, it said in a statement on Tuesday (May 4). The committee also announced that the enhanced movement control order (MCO) will be enforced at 11 longhouses, villages and workers quarters in the state until mid-May. The affected localities are Rumah Tiut anak Usit longhouse in Tatau from April 28 to May 11; Rumah Mujah anak Atin, Bintulu (April 28-May 11); Rumah Sam anak Sumbang, Bintulu (April 29-May 12); Rumah Ajah anak Umkar, Tatau (April 29-May 12); Forescom Plywood Sdn Bhd workers quarters, Bintulu (April 29-May 12); Rumah Saran anak Belang, Tatau (May 1-14); Rumah Nelson
