KUCHING: Sarawak reported a triple-digit increase in Covid-19 cases for the sixth straight day with 121 on Tuesday (Feb 2), taking the state s tally to 4,676 cases.
The state disaster management committee said Sibu district recorded the highest number of cases with 37, followed by Miri (25), Kapit (21) and Dalat (10).
Other districts with new cases were Bintulu (nine), Bukit Mabong (four), Kuching, Song and Beluru with three each, Serian (two), and Sarikei, Kanowit, Julau and Selangau with one each.
The committee said there were 148 new recoveries, bringing the number of recoveries to 2,985 or 63.8% of the total number of cases to date.
There are still 1,635 active cases receiving treatment in hospitals as well as quarantine and low-risk treatment centres in the state.
The fatalities were reported in Sibu, bringing the total number of deaths in the state to 28.
The 27th death was from case 2,963, a 53-year old local woman from the Pasai cluster, who was referred to Sibu Hospital on Wednesday (Jan 20) due to shortness of breath.
She was under intubation at the hospital but died on the same day.
The state disaster management committee said in its daily report that an rRT-PCR test was done on the woman on Thursday (Jan 21) that came back positive for Covid-19.
She had a history of diabetes, high blood pressure and kidney failure. The 28th death involved a 91-year local man who was referred to the Sibu Hospital from a daycare centre on Jan 16 as he had a cough and fever.
KUCHING (Jan 24): Sarawak reported two more deaths from Covid-19 today, besides 255 new cases, the highest number in a day so far in the state. The State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) said Sibu continued to record the highest number of cases, with 71 today, followed by Miri (57), Kanowit (30), Song (27), Betong (14), Dalat (9), Bintulu (9), Serian (8), Subis (8), Sarikei (5), Matu (5), Kapit (3) Sebauh (3), Kuching (2), Beluru (2), Bukit Mabong (1) and Tatau (1), bringing the total number of positive cases in Sarawak to 3,379.
KUCHING: Sarawak reported 146 new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday (Jan 12), the second consecutive day of a triple-digit increase which takes the state s tally of confirmed cases to 1,574.
The state disaster management committee said 92 cases were reported in Sibu, 20 in Sebauh, 12 in Kanowit, 11 in Miri, three each in Beluru and Kuching, two in Dalat and one each in Saratok, Bintulu and Limbang.
It said 111 of the cases were linked to the Pasai cluster, which stemmed from a funeral at Rumah Langi longhouse at Pasai Siong, Sibu, on Dec 29-31.
The Pasai cluster now has 194 infections from 1,243 individuals screened so far, while 800 tested negative and 249 are still awaiting results.
KUCHING: Sibu and Kuching districts in Sarawak were today declared red zones following the increase in the Covid-19 cases in both areas in the last 14.
