Published on: Saturday, July 03, 2021 By: Bernama Text Size: PUTRAJAYA: The Federal Court here Friday upheld the Court of Appeal’s order that news portal Malaysiakini and three others have to pay RM200,000 in damages to Raub Australian Gold Mining Sdn Bhd (RAGM) over the publication of defamatory articles relating to gold mining activities in Bukit Koman, Raub Pahang. The five-member bench led by Federal Court judge Datuk Vernon Ong Lam Kiat, in a majority 3-2 decision, dismissed the appeal by Mkini Dotcom Sdn Bhd, the company which operates news portal Malaysiakini, and three other former members of the editorial team.

Federal Court verdict tomorrow on Mkini appeal in gold mine suit

Federal Court verdict tomorrow on Mkini appeal in gold mine suit Modified2:26 am - Malaysiakini will know tomorrow whether the Federal Court allows the news portal’s appeal against a defamation suit by the Raub Australian Gold Mining (RAGM) company. A five-member bench of the Palace of Justice in Putrajaya is set to deliver the decision via video conferencing at 9.30am on Friday. The proceedings are set to be held online due to Putrajaya being under total lockdown for the movement control order (MCO 3.0). Federal Court judges Vernon Ong Lam Kiat, Abdul Rahman Sebli, Zaleha Yusof, Hasnah Mohammed Hashim and Harmindar Singh Dhaliwal heard the appeal on Dec 1 last year.
