WBAL NewsRadio 1090 and FM 101.5 received four first-place awards Saturday night from the Chesapeake Associated Press Broadcasters Association (CAPBA). WBAL-TV 11 received two first-place awards. The awards were presented in a virtual ceremony, and the stations were recognized the best among radio and television stations in Maryland, Delaware and the District of Columbia, that subscribe to the Associated Press (AP). Entries were judged by broadcast professionals from AP subscribing stations from around the country. The station was recognized for Outstanding Spot News, Metro Radio, for coverage of the deadly gas explosion on Labyrinth Road in Northwest Baltimore.  The explosion occurred Aug. 10.  Two people died in the explosion.

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan is calling the Baltimore mayor s plan to establish a task force to help cut the police department budget reckless. Mayor Brandon Scott announced on Thursday plans to establish a task force that would determine the most effective ways to reduce the police budget over five years, according to Fox 45 Baltimore. The governor has committed record funding to fighting violent crime in Baltimore City and will continue to do so despite the mayor s reckless agenda, Hogan spokesperson Michael Ricci told Fox News in a statement Saturday.

A Baltimore high school student passed all but three classes over four years and still graduated near the top half of his class with a 0.13 GPA, according to Fox 45 Baltimore. Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan has called for an investigation into a Baltimore High School after a local investigation found scores of students at the school are failing. A senior at Augusta Fells Savage (AFS) Institute of Visual Arts failed all but three classes over four years and still graduated at the top half of his class with a 0.13 GPA, according to a Fox 45 Baltimore report published earlier this week.
