The population is about 27,500 people and encompasses will 60 square miles about the same size as carmelbythesea here in california. There are four Elementary Schools in newtown. Sandy hook where the shootings took place is a kindergarten through fourth grade school. Now, the children described terror as they told their parents about how they cowered in the classrooms. While their teachers locked doors and ordered them to hide. Heres how some of those students and their parents explained what happened today. Somebody yelled, get to a safe place. President obama will be coming here later today and meet with some of the victims families and were told he will speak at a vigil being held tonight. Meanwhile, the community is grieving. We saw more vigils here last night really moving vigils. 20 children and 6 adults died in fridays shooting inside sandy hook elementary. We should begin hearing the first Funeral Plans for some of the victims very soon. We also want to pass this along. The united way has set up a Sandy Hook School fund. Today may mark the very first day of healing for people who will be facing a very, very long process. The entire community that are directly affected and for the entire nation, family, friends, neighbors all gathering at places of worship in this small southwestern connecticut town. A candlelight vigil being scheduled for this evening. President obama expected to fly in this afternoon and after meeting with the families of victims and after meeting with the First Responders he will take part in that candlelight vigil. One this 20yearold woke up this morning, stole hismothers car, and drove to the Elementary School where she worked as a can earn teacher. Ryan lanza then opened fire at inside this kindergarten classroom, killing 26 people. Schools principal among the victims as well. Then ryan lanza turned the gun on himself. Today, the loss of innocent young lives will overshadow our lives for days.
