Published: 11 May 2021 SABA: - Following an invitation extended by the Immigration and Naturalization Service IND, the Saba Business Association (SBA) board represented by Chairperson Alida Heilbron and Vice-Chair Gerard Geenty attended a meeting on Thursday, May 6, 2021. The main topic up for discussion was the long waiting time for the processing of work permits as well as residency permits. With Saba being such a small market, hiring personnel abroad is practically inevitable. The SBA emphasized the fact that the tedious and long process of issuing permits hampers the micro-business in their quest of moving forward. The borders have opened up and the hotels and dive shops are more than ready to get back in the full swing of things. Employees of especially dive centers and hotels have left during the pandemic as their future on Saba was not certain.

Published: 03 May 2021 SABA: - Government has been working over the last years on numerous developments, contributing to the well-being of the Saba people. It was therefore that a retreat was recently organized between the Executive Council and the Island Council. The meeting was to inform, discuss, and allow the Island Council Members to reflect on the developments and the priorities set in four theme areas. The four themes were: 1. infrastructure, 2. the social domain, 3. policies, projects, and legislation, and 4. public service. During the retreat at Queen’s Garden Hotel, the Executive Council provided an update on the various topics, whereby there was ample opportunity for in-depth discussions and brainstorming with the members of the Island Council. Published: 12 March 2021 SABA: - The Public Entity Saba receives a one-time amount of US $1 million from the Dutch Government. State Secretary of Home Affairs and Kingdom Relations Raymond Knops wants to add the monies in 2021 to the free allowance, allowing Saba to take its own decision on how to spend these funds, he informed the local government in a letter on Friday, March 12. State Secretary Knops: “I have been consulting with the Saba Executive Council for a while about the height of the free allowance and the shortage of structural means. Saba has in the past years shown that it has its financial management and the rightful spending of means. With this contribution, I want to accommodate Saba.”
