Well, this Morning Service resumes on the Metro North Commuter Railroad line that was the scene of a devastating rush hour crash on tuesday night. Six people were killed in valhalla about 20 miles north of new york city when a train collided with an suv. As investigators continue to look into the tragic wreck, the big question theyre facing is why did the driver stop her suv on the tracks. Don champion reports. Reporter 24 hours after the fiery crash, the cars of the metro north train were towed back down the tracks. Earlier on wednesday whats left of the suv that triggered the deadly collision was lifted from the front of the train. The driver of that vehicle was identified as 49yearold ellen brody. Yesterday, the person of interest in the body parts case died of drugrelated causes. The death came four days after he was released from jail. Prosecutors were unable to charge him due to lack of evidence so authorities had no choice but to release him. He became a person of interest after a security video apparently captured him near the spot where a suitcase with a torso inside wour found. Police suspect the body may be that of his friend who is missing. The medical examiner has yet to determine a cause of death. We spoke with a friend who says the last time he saw him was friday and said he maintained his innocence and asked for a sleeping bag. I look down and i said good to see him. I dont know what the problem was. We stood up and he said can i get a bag . I got him a bag and that was pretty much it. Down. That was hardly the worst of it. We talked to a woman today, shed the winds were so powerful around 7 30 this morning they pulled a massive pine tree out of the ground from its roots and sent it toppling over her driveway and on to part of her roof. I was in my bedroom. I heard the branches. It hit by redwood, you can see all of the branches it broke off as it came down and, just just i kind of just said god i hope it does not come through the bedroom. And then it went thud and the house shook. Reporter this is really happening all over the east bay today. Other trees went down in berkeley it this morning, this one on blake street. Hitting power lines. Neighbors call the Fire Department after the power lines started to smoke. Tree limbs falling all around it. The rain also causing a slippery mess on highways today.
