A Lethbridge man who bragged to police he’s a great drunk driver, will spend the next several weeks behind bars. Richard Wayne Daye pleaded guilty Thursday in Lethbridge provincial court to one count of impaired driving, and was sentenced to three months in jail. Court was told the man’s blood-alcohol readings were more than three times over the legal limit, and when he was booked into the cells at the police station, he boasted, “I am a fantastic impaired driver, I have been doing it for 27 years”.
A 25-year-old Lethbridge man who seriously injured another man by dragging him with his vehicle, has been sentenced to a year in jail.
Dylan Ivan Sokol pleaded guilty Wednesday in Lethbridge provincial court to one count of dangerous driving causing bodily harm, stemming from an incident last summer when he dragged a man, from whom he was fleeing, over a gravel median.
“It was a drug deal gone bad,” explained Crown Prosecutor Bruce Ainscough.
Ainscough said the man was attempting to get inside Sokol’s vehicle when Sokol took off with the man hanging out the driver’s door.
The man was also run over by the vehicle, and sustained fractures to his ribs and knee. His liver and abdomen were also damaged and he suffered a serious chest injury.
