Warriors still a punching bag

Mzuzu Warriors Football Club was again at the receiving end on Sunday when they went down 1-2 at the hands of Moyale Barracks in the TNM Super League at Mzuzu Stadium. The Warriors are at the bottom of the log table with 15 points from 23 games and are losing each and every game on their way out of the country’s top flight league. Lack of sponsorship is the club’s major set back as it lost almost twelve of its players and those playing are simply doing so out of passion for football. Action between Warriors and Moyale The game on Sunday began with a minute silence in honour of late Innocent Botomani who was once President of the Super League of Malawi (SULOM) and passed on Saturday.

Moyale, Ntopwa share spoils

After sending Mzuzu Warriors packing from the FDH Bank Cup on Saturday, Ntopwa Football Club, The Amaghetto Kids, shared a point each with Moyale Barracks in the TNM Super League on Sunday at Mzuzu Stadium. Right from the first whistle, it was the home side, Moyale Barracks, that settled into the game very quickly and knocked the ball around with purpose, looking dangerous when they attacked but the defence for the visitors was able to neutralise the fierce attacks. But when the Amaghetto Kids went forward after 10 minutes, their counter-attack resulted in their captain Mphatso Magaleta being brought down in the 18-metre area and referee Lackson Chunda awarded them a penalty. Hendrix Misinde sent goalkeeper MacDonald Harawa the wrong way.

Moyale bulldozes into top four

Moyale Barracks Football Club, fondly called The Lions of Kaning’ina, has wound up the first round of the 2021 TNM Super League season on position four with 24 points after beating Karonga United 2-0 on Sunday at Mzuzu Stadium. The Mzuzu soldiers started the season on a bad note and at one point they anchored the log table, a situation that worried all the followers of the club. But coach Prichard Mwansa made sure the team moved up the ladder slowly but surely and as they wound the first round, they had registered six consecutive wins. The road to position four started with a 1- nil win at home against BeForward Wanderers, followed by another 3-2 home win against Ekwendeni Hammers. Then the soldiers travelled to Lilongwe where they defeated their brothers in arms, Kamuzu Barracks, 0-1 before returning home to pounce on Mzuzu Warriors with the same margin.

Moyale doubles derby bragging rights

Moyale Barracks Football Club has become the reigning king in the city of Mzuzu after winning two first round TNM Super League derby matches against Ekwendeni Hammers 3-2 on April 10 and Mzuzu Warriors last Saturday 1-0. Playing on a muddy pitch on Saturday, it took time for both teams to settle down but the soldiers settled earlier than the warriors. Chrispin Fukizi and Clifford Fukuzi for Moyale Barracks were on top of their game as they both controlled things in the middle of the park. They kept the engine room for the soldiers very busy as they kept supplying relevant and meaningful balls across the pitch.

Moyale hammer Ekwendeni to claim Mzuzu derby bragging rights

Moyale Barracks Football Club on Saturday collected maximum three points in the TNM Super League against Ekwendeni Hammers in a Mzuzu derby that ended 3-2. Moyale Barracks were winners over Ekwendeni Hammers in a five-goal thriller. Striker Gastin Simkonda, Brown Magaga and Lloyd Njaliwa scored for the Moyale while Ekwendeni goals came from Patrick Banda and Chawanangwa Gumbo. Playing at home, Mzuzu Stadium, in front of their Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Thokozani Chazema, the soldiers, just like the visitors, lacked clear pattern of play from the word go as the pitch was muddy and slippery due to the rains that poured before kick-off.
