Apr 1, 2021 Orpha W. Gingrich, 94, of Evendale, went to be with Jesus at 4:51 p.m., Tuesday, March 30, 2021m at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Born on Dec. 27, 1926, in Fayette Twp., Juniata County, she is a daughter of the late Michael W. and Alma (Lauver) Wert. On June 22, 1947, she married her late husband, J. Lloyd Gingrich, with whom she was blessed to share over 72 years of marriage before his passing on April 11, 2020. Together, they farmed for many years in Evendale. She is survived by: her children, Margaret Varner and her husband Tim, of McAlisterville, John M. Gingrich and his wife Rosanne, of Richfield, David Gingrich and his wife Phyllis, of Thompsontown, Dale Gingrich and his wife Gladys, of Richfield, Barbara Gingrich, of Richfield, Paul Gingrich and his wife Debra, of Dillsburg, and Marie Vredevelt and her husband Kirk, of Alto, MI; 20 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and her extended family.

Mar 17, 2021 Waunetah M. Powell, 94, of Mifflintown, passed away at 11:24 a.m., on Monday, March 15, 2021, at her residence. Born on April 24, 1926, on Bell Island, Fermanagh Twp., Juniata County, she is a daughter of the late Ira and Margaret (Snouffer) Dean. On April 22, 1979, she married her surviving husband, Frederick C. “Fred” Powell with whom she was blessed to share over 41 years of marriage. In addition to her husband, she is survived by: her daughters, Evelyn Price and her husband Jeff of Mifflintown and Vicki Van Horn and her husband Steven of Mifflin; 10 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and 13 great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Bates in October, 2020, and a granddaughter, Jackie Berrier.

Born on Dec. 9, 1964, in Lewistown, Mifflin Co., she is the daughter of the late William E. and Louise M. (Marshall) Page. On April 27, 1996, she married her surviving husband, Bryan A. Smith, with whom she was blessed to share almost 25 years of marriage. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Paige A. Smith of Thompsontown. Carol was a 1983 graduate of Juniata High School, Mifflintown and a 1987 graduate of Shippensburg University where she earned a journalism degree.

Mar 1, 2021 Howard E. “Ed” Cowan Sr., 86, of Port Royal, formerly of Mount Union, passed away at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2021, at his residence. Born on July 12, 1934, in Mount Union, Huntingdon Co., he is a son of the late James and Mary (Morgan) Cowan. On Sept. 3, 1955, he married his surviving wife, Jane (Williams) Cowan with whom he was blessed to share over 65 years of marriage. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Robin A. Wagner and her husband Ted of Mifflintown, Howard E. “Ed” Cowan, Jr. and his wife Jane of North East, MD, Thomas J. Cowan of Orbisonia, and Joseph C. Cowan of Harrisburg; one sister, Mary Ruth Snyder of Elizabethtown; eight grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.
