For Laura Levine-Pinedo, giving back to the northwest Bronx is something that has come to her naturally for years. That’s why it wasn’t so difficult for state Sen. Gustavo Rivera to honor her with the Empire Award on June 15.
Legendary as it is, the Bronx has never been known for its jazz scene. That is, until now. Over the past two months, local singer Tamuz Nissim and guitarist Giorgos Nazos have taken the reins of the fledgling movement and created the one and only “Jazz Jam In The Bronx,” right here in Riverdale.

Restaurants in North Riverdale, Kingsbridge and Spuyten Duyvil may have survived the initial onslaught of the Covid-19 pandemic, but the battle after the lockdown has taken many casualties. The switch to more take-out has significantly cost those restaurants used to a more traditional business.
In these post-Covid times, many greater Riverdale restaurants are still struggling to meet the bottom line. To help those eateries that have survived, the organizers of Riverdale Restaurant Week are back for an encore.
