Under-18 Royals split regular season finale with Athletics
Playoff opponent still to be determined
The final weekend of the 2021 Saskatchewan Premier Baseball League AA regular season brought some added confidence to the Prince Albert Under-18 Royals.
After suffering lopsided losses to the Saskatoon Athletics at Andy Zwack Field earlier in the year, the Royals earned a measure of revenge on Saturday afternoon with a 15-14 win in Saskatoon.
“The biggest difference this time around was that we got our offence going against Saskatoon’s pitching, which wasn’t the case when we played them here,” Royals head coach Geoff Gay said.

As has been the case throughout the 2021 Saskatchewan Premier Baseball League AA season, the Prince Albert Under-18 Royals bats were humming on Wednesday night.
The Royals improved to record to 14-7-1 on the campaign thanks to 10-3 and 11-3 triumphs over the host North Battleford Beavers at Beaver Lions Stadium.
“I think we just got on the bats early and took control of the game,” Royals player Jack Mortimer said. “We made them play up to our level and we didn’t play down to theirs.”
Under-18 Royals split weekend road games in Unity and Lloydminster
The start of the Prince Albert Under-18 Royals ten-game road swing was an absolute roller coaster.
In the first of two contests for the Saskatchewan Premier Baseball League AA division squad on Saturday, the Royals fell behind early and lost a lopsided 23-7 affair to the 12-4-1 Unity Cardinals.
Their rematch later that day was a much tighter affair, but the Cardinals completed the sweep with a 13-12 victory.
“We were just coming off a game (against the Saskatoon Athletics at Andy Zwack Field last Tuesday) where we struck out 18 times and all of sudden we found ourselves down 10-0 in the first inning to Unity,” Royals coach Geoff Gay said.
The Prince Albert Royals split their four-game weekend road trip against the Unity Cardinals and Lloydminster Twins of the Saskatchewan Premier Baseball League AA.
On Saturday, the Royals lost a double-header to the Unity Cardinals 23-7 the first game and 13-12 in the following match.
In the opening game of the weekend the Royals lost despite bring in four runs in the third inning. Nic Nye started the game for the Royals on the mound, however, he only played one-third of an inning allowing 10 runs on four hits. He did strike out one. Dawson Paterson, Jack Mortimer and Cody Morash all had their hand in relief pitching. The Royals came out of the game with nine total hits.
