BUSINESS is booming for a brewery as it opens its new £40,000 tap room and beer garden for punters. Broad Town Brewery, in Broad Town near Wootton Bassett, is the first in the village since the Hart family s in the 19th century. Jason and Vincenza Bayliffe opened it in 2019, just months before the coronavirus pandemic hit. But despite the challenging times, the business continues to be a success and now it has as new bar, the Hop Chapel. Warning over domestic fires after crews called

A WARNING has been issued after fire crews were called to Broad Town this morning. The fire service needed to put out a fire involving hedge cuttings and foliage next to Pye Lane at 11.52am. A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue said: “ Royal Wootton Bassett attended a fire in the open involving hedge cuttings and foliage. We re seeing more and more fires in gardens and domestic open spaces. “Always have a water supply nearby when having fires and a phone to call 999 if anything gets out of hand.

Plan for 10 homes near Broad Town school goes to planning appeal

Controversial plans for 10 houses near Broad Town Primary School A ROW over the impact of houses on a rural setting and whether there was a need for such a development in the immediate area dominated a planning appeal. The issue surrounds plans for 10 starter homes on a field just south of Broad Town Primary School in the village near Royal Wootton Bassett. The homes would be be sold at an ‘affordable’ 20 per cent discount Developer Greystoke Land Limited last week had its appeal heard against the refusal of planning permission by Wiltshire Council. The council turned down the plan because the houses are outside the village’s settlement boundary. It also said they would damage the rural nature of the area, particularly the setting of the Grade II-listed Christ Church.
