From living rooms and Zoom rooms, Connecticut watched as Joe Biden was sworn in Wednesday as America’s 46th president.
Inauguration watch parties are a time-honored tradition, but in deference to the pandemic, they looked a bit different this year.
At the Connecticut Democrats’ virtual watch party, Suzanne Benton of Ridgefield was one of 60 people who logged on to enjoy sharing the events in Washington, D.C.
“After all we’ve been through it’s I’m weeping now it’s just been beautiful,” she said, overcome with emotion. “Beautiful to hear him, beautiful hope, it was a beautiful speech, and of course I’m hopeful.”
The matriarch of Geisslerâs Supermarket has died.
Mary (Geissler) Nilsson, 89, was the daughter of founder A.F. Geissler and the grandmother of the chainâs current leaders, according to Patch.com. No cause of death was immediately given.
âThe lifelong resident of the Broad Brook section of East Windsor (Connecticut) grew up riding with her father to pick up grocery orders and then delivering the next day,â the Patch report said. âHe had founded his business in 1923, and was originally located at 123 Main Street in Broad Brook. After Mary graduated from Ellsworth High School and Colby Junior College, she married Jim Nilsson, who took over the business and expanded it into a multi-location independent chain.â

■Miss Gloria Bisaillon has retired from the Northampton school system after 30 years, 29 as head of the Girls’ Physical Education Department at Northampton High School. A 1931 graduate of NHS, she was the leading girls’ basketball player in western Mass. and captained the Devilettes during her senior year.
