Mumbai: According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the city s first underground rainwater storage tanks is all set to be constructed near Hindmata. Also, the plan could also be recreated in other areas as well.

By June, the target has been set to construct two tanks in the area by BMC. Talking about the tank s length and width, the tank will be 100 metres in length, 50 metres in width and six-metre deep. The cost if the project is estimated at around Rs 130 crore. Also, the storage capacity of the tank will be about 30 lakh litres of water.

Mumbai civic body, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will adopt the sponge city initiative, a Chinese initiative designed to tackle urban flooding during extreme rainfall conditions to reduce the intensity of rainwater run-off by increasing absorption power.
As per the report, to keep its promise of a flood-free city during the monsoon, the civic body takes note of the frequent rainfall. Sponge city initiative has been designed to equip urban localities from heavy rainwater. The process will enhance and distribute water absorption capacities across the city.

Mumbai: Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) lays down guidelines for regular cleaning of underground and overhead water storage tanks of housing societies. According to the new norms these water tanks have to be cleaned twice a year. The city municipal corporation draws up a plan for cleaning underground or overhead water storage tanks.
According to the
Indian Express report, water tanks of housing societies, commercial buildings or any other government and non-government premises have to be cleaned every six months. To prevent water contamination, BMC comes up with these guidelines for regular cleaning of water storage tanks.
