Offaly artist s stunning light display to travel the River Shannon

An incredible light display from Offaly artist Mick Murray will travel the Shannon this summer.
Light Ballet is presented as part of Brightening Air | Coiscéim Coiligh, a nationwide, ten-day season of arts experiences brought to you by the Arts Council, this June.
Light Ballet will transform the skies and surrounding landscape of eight counties with a light installation floating down the River Shannon over eight days.
Created by Mick Murray and Lighting Designer Matthew Cregan, Light Ballet will be visible (13th to 20th June) from up to seven kilometres and covering almost two hundred kilometres, this installation will be accompanied by a newly composed soundscape by David Kitt.

Our Backstage Theatre Young Curators are delighted to announce that Lasta Festival 2021 at Backstage will include Night Is Young, a brand-spanking-new venture, showcasing the very best talent that Longford – and its surrounding areas – have to offer.
So, if you’re between the ages of 12-19, send us in a video of you doing what you do best, whether that’s singing, dancing, rapping… maybe you’re in a band? Maybe you perform poetry? Or do stand-up? Whatever it is, we’d love to see it.

Imagine this. You’re standing in Cork city’s Elizabeth Fort, one of 15 socially distanced people, right in the midst of Alex Petcu’s percussion sextet Bangers & Crash, buried by the raw power and immediacy of live percussion, that “immersive, visceral feeling of the music up at the fort”.
Or this: “You’re standing underneath the Port of Cork sign, facing out to the water, the quay, the city, headphones on”, listening to sounds, spoken word, electronic beats, opera, teasing out the life of Kate “Birdie” Conway. “You’ll be encouraged to dance, if you want to… or it’s perfectly acceptable to stand there. It’ll be very interactive.”
