Image Credit: SUBMITTED / Anna Martin December 16, 2020 - 6:30 AM A Kamloops youth drill team will be decorating themselves, and their horses, to ride through neighbourhoods spreading Christmas cheer this weekend. It’s getting quite the buzz, people are so excited, Outlaw Riders coach Anna Martin says. It’s something to do, people can even just stand in their front window and wave. The team is comprised of 10 riders aged 10 to 17 who train together to perform choreographed routines on horseback to music, sometimes in the dark. The riders and their horses will be dressed up with lights to walk through Barnhartvale neighbourhoods Dec. 19.

December 15, 2020 - 11:48 AM RCMP in Kamloops want everyone to be aware of a phone scam that cost a local woman $12,000. Police received the complaint Dec. 14 from the victim, who was contacted by a fraudster claiming to be from a major credit card company s head office, according to an RCMP media release. The caller asked for the woman s help to catch bank employees who were giving out personal information, and told her she was under investigation for fraud if she had any involvement. She spoke to several different people who claimed to be from the credit card company, who advised her not to call her bank because they may be involved in the crime.

Indian Road Trip, a feature film inspired by life growing up on a reservation, according to a Thompson-Nicola Film Commission media release. The film features local backdrops such as Glimpse Lake, Merritt, Lower Nicola and areas in Quilchena, filmed in May and June of 2017.

December 15, 2020 - 8:00 AM There is a new proposal heading to Kamloops council today to develop the former Tranquille Sanatorium and surrounding farmland, which make up Tranquille on the Lake. British Columbia Wilderness Tours Inc. has submitted an Agricultural Land Reserve application to adjust what is permitted on the site in order to build a a sustainable agri-community, according to a report to council. The plan proposes planting orchards and vineyards with the goal of developing a destination winery above Cooney Bay overlooking Kamloops Lake. The development would be family-oriented homes and a regional community park at Cooney Bay. The development site is made up of multiple parcels of land that total 190 hectares.
