One of the businesses damaged was a family owned business. They started in San Francisco in 1947. We spoke with the owners son this morning and he described his fathers despair seeing the Family Building and business go up in flames. This will be an ongoing effort by San Francisco fire. We have been monitoring this story starting this morning. We understand that fire crews permits remain busy at this scene. Reporter the good news is that this fight is now 90 contain. It is not spreading to any of the buildings. Firefighters got the handle on investigation. The flames early this morning started at 6 am when the fire first people from miles around San Francisco could see the heavy smokcoming from 13th and south van ness which is where the fire star building that area. This afternoon putting out hot spots. Christian joins us with more on the firefight and now the investigation into what caused this fire. Christian . Certainly, alex, those firefighters said theyll be there until at least in the morning. When the first firefighters got here, you could not see your hand in front of your face. They had that much black smoke through this entire alleyway, and now we have firefighters who can be electrocuted. We can have firefighters who can be damaged or hurt by falling debris. Firefighters battled the flames, all the way dodging energized electrical lines and downed transformers. One firefighter was transported to the hospital after injuring juniories battling the fire. One firefighter who was injured is in stable condition and expected to be okay. By 1 30, crews had the upper hand on the fire, but not before it damaged six buildings along 14th street. Three residents in the area have been displaced. A half dozen or more businesses impacted. To see it go
Mind blowing. Reporter grind bartfelt said when he first heard about the fire this morning, he had no idea how bath it would be until 4th arrived on scene. High heart sunk add i saw our building up in flames when i turned the corner. Reporter he building where his family started the business more than 70 years ago appears to be a complete loss. While he hopes insurance will allow them to carry on, right now he says its simply too early to say. When the dust clears, the smoke clears, so to speak, you know, what the obviously big time damage, you know, well cross that bridge when we get to it.
