A New Jersey woman who lost nearly all of her possessions during last month’s forest fire in Ocean County was struck and killed by a car while crossing Route 70 in Brick on Monday, according to police and a local minister.
Kathleen M. Winits, 55, was hit by an eastbound sedan as she crossed near the intersection with Olden Street shortly before 7 p.m, Brick police said.
Winits was headed toward the Brick Motor Inn, where she and her husband were staying. Witnesses told police she ran into traffic and was not in a crosswalk, authorities said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

BRICK, NJ A Brick Township woman was killed Monday night when she was hit by a car on Route 70 after she ran into traffic, police said.
Kathleen M. Winits, 55, was pronounced dead at the scene, Brick Sgt. Jim Kelly said.
Winits was hit just before 7 p.m. on Route 70 at Olden Street, in the westbound lanes approaching the Brick Motor Inn motel, Kelly said. She was not in a crosswalk, and witnesses told police Winits had run into traffic moments before she was hit.
