A Westreef employee said houses had been inundated with water, and there were “more than likely” people still over there. Buller deputy mayor Sharon Roche said a helicopter and a rescue boat evacuated a group of farmers stranded by floodwaters in the Nine Mile area, south of Westport, at about 1pm. She said Army Unimogs had to be sent to rescue people in the Snodgrass Rd area of Westport who had returned to their homes on Saturday morning after being evacuated on Friday night.
